Redmond’s New Center Welcomes Creators and Collectors

Sharp peaks jut through the clear, blue sky. Buffalo roam. Flowers bloom. And river rocks sparkle. The most surprising part: You’re not outside. These things are coming to life indoors on canvas, clay, and jewelry at the Dry Canyon Community Arts Center. It’s a place where paintings, sculptures, textiles, and art lovers converge to inspire and delight all who visit.

Central Oregon is home to several accomplished painters, sculptors, jewelry makers, and photographers. And they come together under one roof. Here, in Redmond.

A Creative Space Years in the Making

Located in the historic Rogers & Lynch building at 405 SW 6th Street in downtown Redmond, the 2,000-square-foot space is a vibrant hub of activity. Yet for the Dry Canyon Arts Association, it’s something more — a vision, realized. For over 20 years, the organization rented and borrowed spaces all over Redmond to hold exhibits, shows, and meetings. Now, their communal place for creative expression thrives thanks to generous donations from corporate and individual funders.

Less SOHO, More Real

You’ll notice a refreshing sense of authenticity here. The artists aren’t pretentious. The environment is welcoming, not stuffy. And people of all ages appreciate and create many forms of art. Whether it’s resting on an easel in one of two classrooms that will soon welcome students, or hanging on the walls for purchase, you’ll find the creative pulse beats strong in central Oregon. And there’s no better place to experience it firsthand than in the thriving arts scene of Redmond.

Take the High Desert Home

The brilliance of a wild salmon swimming upstream. A gritty cowboy bringing in cattle at day’s end. A piece of pottery with a color that matches the soil you were walking on earlier. When it comes to a vivid memory of Redmond, you can take it with you in the form of local artwork for sale. Available in a wide variety of price points, only one thing is holding you back: wall space in your home.

More Art to Explore

Redmond is all about venturing out and discovering things. The same holds true for art. We encourage you to come visit during First Fridays. Walk around a bit, see other nearby galleries and take in the artisan vibe. You may find that special something and wonder about the inspiration behind it. Then you look up and see the sun setting over the Cascades in the distance. Suddenly, it all makes sense.

The Finishing Touches

Round out your art excursion with a satisfying meal, stay in a cozy hotel, or explore the welcoming outdoors that surround you. Like good art, you’ll find something that perfectly matches your style in Redmond.
