It’s one for people who enjoy the pure love of the game, being outside, and conquering challenging holes of which you’ll find more than a few.

Here you’ll discover five different courses that are all open to the public. Yet several are so nice you’ll think you might need a membership. Don’t worry, that feeling will go away once you land on a manicured fairway, hopefully not on the beach. Here are some places to check out.
Juniper Golf Course
As you hit off the fairways on this John Harbottle III-designed course, it’s easy to see how this place got its name. You’ll find Juniper trees, plenty of them, lining every hole. While the course features generous driving zones, you’ll need to plan out the placement of your shot just right. Go a bit too far and you’ll have craggy rock outcroppings to contend with. Wind up short and tall, flowing native grasses may get in the way. These things don’t seem to discourage those who frequently visit here though. This challenging but fair par 72 layout embraces the mountain views of the Cascade Range, often earning praise as one of the best municipal courses in Oregon.
Eagle Crest Resort
Some people’s worlds revolve around golf. At Eagle Crest, the same holds true for a resort. Sure they have great spas, a lodge and hiking trails, but the real draw is golf. Here you’ll find three courses, each with their own unique character.
- The Resort Course: Maybe you like to grip-it-and-rip-it. Or perhaps you’re all about accuracy. Either way, you’ll feel at home on this Gene “Bunny” Mason-designed par-72 that feels like two courses in one. The front nine gives you room to drive. The back nine demands pinpoint placement. In the middle is you pinching yourself in a dream-like setting.
- The Ridge Course: Beautiful wide-open fairways on the front 9 are a driver’s dream. Strategically-placed holes challenge your short game on the back 9. But the one constant: those dramatic mountain views from the ridge. If you’re up for a challenge, this par-72 course is waiting for you. Watch the penalty strokes when you’re not watching the views.
- The Challenge Course: Some places say they have a great short course. The Challenge Course proves it, ranking as one of the top 25 in the country. This par-63 will test your short game, your ability to control your distance and your mental resolve. A round of golf will only take you about three hours but the memory of it will last forever.
The Greens at Redmond
You may be short on time, but this executive-style course, just a few minutes outside of town, packs a lot in. This 18-hole par-58 course is a great place to work on your short and mid-iron game. That is, if you can call playing near natural rock formations, white sand bunkers, and beautiful water features “work”. This one is a favorite among the locals. Which means the same person you got paired up with on the tee may be the bartender who serves you a 19th hole drink in town afterward. Together you can reminisce about the round—mulligans included.
Get Your Swing Dialed. Digitally.
You can book time with a pro to work on your swing. You can also use that pro, along with advanced technology, to get your game dialed in with computer-like precision. Juniper Golf is breaking ground on a Tracer Golf facility set to open in September 2026. With it, you can take your clubhead back, follow through and let all the calculations do the rest of the work. This state-of-the-art Doppler radar system will give you ball speed, launch angle, spin rate and direction in a matter of seconds. It’s almost as instantly gratifying as a hole-in-one.

Enjoy a savory, flavorful bourbon at Gompers Distillery and Speakeasy. Then relax and reminisce about your round over a hand-rolled favorite at High Desert Cigars.
